Roxbury Roots Community Supper: A Celebration of Togetherness and Healthy Living

I am filled with joy to share a local group I am part of, that has recently rebloomed in my community.  Last Friday was our Roxbury Roots Community Supper, where families and friends came together to enjoy an evening of food, conversation, and the rekindling of cherished relationships. This special gathering, made possible by the generous support of the Vermont Community Foundation (VCF), was a testament to the power of community and the importance of healthy, nourishing food.

There is such a profound impact of clean, real food on community well-being. The dinners not only offer a space for socializing and enjoying nourishing meals but also to prepare dishes that are packaged and shared with our local food shelf, extending the benefits of our gatherings to those in need.

The Roxbury Roots Community Supper is an initiative aimed at addressing the challenges faced by communities living in food deserts. A food desert is an area where access to fresh, healthy foods is limited or non-existent, often due to a lack of grocery stores, farmers' markets, and other sources of nutritious food.  Roxbury VT, among so many other small rural towns, fall into this definition. Through the support of the VCF, VT Community Harvest and the Vermont Farm and Forest School we have been able to launch this program.

Our Community Suppers are not only about sharing meals; they are also an opportunity to learn about gardening, cooking with fresh ingredients, and embracing self-reliance, especially in the face of climate change and uncertainty. We are committed to fostering intergenerational connections, providing a space for children and non-family elders to interact, share experiences, and find joy in each other's company.

As a member of a small rural town it brings me immense joy to be able to serve in a way that not only feeds people's bodies but also nourishes their spirits, especially in the darker winter months.

This initiative resonates deeply with my Regenerative Health Practice, where I am dedicated to empowering individuals to take control of their health and well-being through education on healthy foods, self-care, and holistic wellness. I firmly believe that by exploring self-care and saying yes to the support of practitioners, coaches and mentors we are able to move through symptoms and disease and thrive in ways we never thought possible.  All through education, connection and accountability.

By embracing the power of clean food and lifestyle, we can create lasting improvements in the health and vitality of ourselves and our community, both now and for generations to come.

I welcome you to join us at the upcoming Roxbury Roots Community Suppers- if you are driving through, visiting or residing here.  They will be held on the last Friday of every month from 5-7pm at the Roxbury Community Hall/Senior Center.  Together, we can build a more resilient, connected, and vibrant community, one nourishing meal at a time.
